“Flavor Tripping” at EFN Lounge

“Flavor Tripping” at EFN Lounge

Last night EFN Lounge (formerly BeBar) played host to DC’s first “Flavor Tripping“, an event centered around the effects of the Miracle Fruit Berry (Synsepalum Dulcificum). Discovered in 1725 in Western Africa, the seed of the fruit contains a molecule called maraculin, which binds to the tongue’s taste buds causing a temporary shift of certain flavors. \\\ Read More

A Greener DC, One Tree at a Time

Dennis Chestnut spends his time planting trees because, as he puts it, “Trees are resilient”. Chestnut is the Executive Director of Groundwork Anacostia, and after learning about his ongoing work with a volunteer brigade known as the “Citizen Foresters”, it’s not hard to see the similarities between the man and his job (last name aside). \\\ Read More

IgniteDC 2009 Recap

IgniteDC 2009 Recap

Last week, Half Street Southeast played host to DC’s first Ignite mini-conference, a fast-paced evening of five minute presentations on various topics ranging from micro-volunteering to pet genealogy and everything in between. I think the format is best described as “Bar Camp meets TED” in that no one subject has focus for very long and you’re hearing from inspiring experts who chose their own subjects.

Radiolab CD’s

Radiolab CD’s

It’s no secret how well-produced and entertaining WNYC’s “Radiolab” is. If you’re just discovering public radio, like I did a few years ago, and are finding it rather dull or age-specific, I really suggest the work Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich are doing, the topics they chose, and the quality of the shows they produce. What’s even better is they offer all their hour long performances plus occasional shorter shows through their podcast over at wnyc.org.

Quick App Idea

Quick App Idea

Throughout the lifespan of a project involving multiple files, not only is the main project file changing, but sometimes other related files. It would be awesome if visually, you could represent the “current folder” by perhaps clicking on it and selecting a “tag” (sort of like folder colors) but for status. This way, you could know, quickly, where you should be working and instead of color (which is sometimes meaningless) you could map real concepts to the use of the folders. Just a suggestion, Apple…
